6-DOF data and aerodynamic models for real-time flight simulation

Abstract


The purpose of this paper is to present the data model developed for a 6DOF real-time flight simulator. The simulation engine in which this data model is embedded is also briefly presented. As usual, the aircraft aerodynamic is defined through aerodynamic coefficients, which are dimensionalised to calculate the acting forces and moments on the aircraft. In order to take into account a complete aerodynamic parameter set, which results necessary for an accurate simulation, great information volume is required; in this paper the matrix organization used for the treatment of these data is presented, which proved to be fast and accurate, moreover allowing to use simple search and interpolation algorithms. Finally, simulation results obtained for a 6-DoF model of a military trainer aircraft are presented.
