Abstract
The research reported herein is on the nonlinear analysis of cables and guyed towers. Cables are analyzed without making a prior assumption as regards the type of loading on them and their final geometry. Nonlinear constitutive relations are also considered. After discussing the previously proposed analysis techniques, a Newton-Rasphson solution procedure is proposed for solving the cable equilibrium equations. The mast of the tower is assumed to be a beam-column having a spring mounted base and supported by preloaded nonlinear springs. These springs represent the effect of guy cables. A procedure is described and a computer program is developed for the nonlinear analysis of guyed towers under arbitrary loads. The program is applied to the analysis of some sample guy cables and guyed tower models to check the accuracy of the analysis procedure and of the program.
